Daddy Daughter Dance

Mike did such an awesome daddy thing. He took Hailey to a local high school's ''Annual Daddy Daughter Dance." Since I wasn't allowed to attend (only dad's) I am going to try to explain the evening the best I can. Mike might edit this entry later if I forgot something.

Mike wanted this day to be very special for Hailey. So he started this evening out but helping his little princess get dress for her ball. She wanted to dress up as Snow White. She looked adorable.
As I helped get her hair done he ran out to the store and got her a single pink rose. When he came back he rang the door bell like he was picking up his date. And she opened it and was surprised to see him there with a flower just for her. She loved it! I made her a corsage. We would of brought one but they cost like $20 so I googled how to make one then headed to Michael's. We made this one for about $2 bucks. Yeah for saving money. She was so excited to go to her dance even though it wasn't for another 45 minutes and the school is about 20 minutes away that I tried to stall by taking some pictures. Here's the only one that she is actually smiling.

Hailey was so excited that she fell asleep on the way to the high school. But she's smart-she's refueling her energy so she can dance the night away. Here's a picture of Mike and Hailey in front of soda machines. We have no clue why she likes to pose sad in pictures..... but that's we got... so that's what we'll post. Here's the two of them dancing. It was really packed and dark in the gym so the pictures are a little dark. But you can still see them. Mike says that the DJ played everything from the Chicken Dance to Nat King Cole. And every dance she wanted to dance. He held her, spun her, dipped her, etc. Good thing he took that dance class prior to this ;-)Hailey made a friend and ditched her date for a little bit.
Poor dad :-( But he was able to grab her back and continue their date.Another sad picture from Hailey. But it's still a cute daddy daughter picture. At the dance there was a spot that you can pay to get your photos done. Since they waited to the very end to get their pictures done their photos weren't printed by the time the dance ended. So Mike and his quick thinking he asked the photographer to snap a few pictures of him and Hay. But we still need to go back to the high school and pick up the the pictures. Hopefully they turned out better so I can scan them and post them. But you can kinda see Hailey and Mike smiling/yelling in the picture above.
When the dance was over and he dropped his date off (which he was an hour late from her 8pm curfew but dad's can get away with that) she was crying cuz she didn't want the night to end. She had so much fun that I can't even explain it. I'm glad they did this together because for this one night she truly felt like daddy's little princess.

Fugue

Does anyone know what a fugue is? That's the million dollar culture question. Tonight Mike and I went to the Utah Symphony performance of "Cho's Anatomy" where the conductor dissected Beethoven's' symphony No.3.

During the first half the conductor gave a history lesson to the audience on Beethoven. Who knew Beethoven had a temper and was a rebel in his time? The conductor explained how the piece was designed and is was originally dedicated to Napoleon but when he turned to the dark side Beethoven revoked his dedication. The conductor would then play a small sample of the symphony and explained the emotion and meaning of that part. And we learned some symphony terms such as fugue means a round. Like in row-row-row your boat. Each section starts at a different time the same piece of music.

Then came intermission. We went to the concession stands and each paid a whopping $1 for a dixie cup of soda and got 2 small treats. That 1 cookie Mike is holding was $2. And my brownie was another $2.

So our hard earned $6 was at least was donated to the Utah Youth Symphony. So money well spent.
When the second half of the performance started the conductor played the symphony in it's entirety and the whole time Mike and I were trying to point out what we had learned. It was a lot of fun.

But we couldn't end the night without a trip to McDonald's for milkshakes!!! So I guess we're not so artsy-fartsy. We're more of the blue-collar entertainment type but it's good to get out of your element every so while to learn something new and experience new things.
But tonight was a little more than just any date night it was a walk down memory lane. We first met a year ago tonight. I just needed to be in my scrubs and green shoes. (I was working at IHC when he met me) It was a nice reminisce.

Pre-Valentines' Day

I (angie) have always loved the idea of Valentines' Day. You should always express your love to those around you however it can be forgotten. Not because you don't love someone but for me especially it's because I figure you know I love you so I might not say it as much as I should. So there's a day to remind people like me to show my love.

Since we have been together we have learned alot from eachother. I have learned from Mike that I can't wait to give a gift to him. I use to wait until the day of celebration and give my gift. But now right when I get something I want to rush and give it to him. Thanks babe. So this is why we had a Pre-V day.
Here is Mike with this little kitty-dog (not sure which one it is) he won for me out of a vending machine. I thinks is cute. It's sitting on a little heart and the tag says "hug me." And he also got me "Love Letters from Joseph and Emma Smith". I have been wanting this book since it came out and I'm very impressed he remembered. But then again he has been surprising me alot lately. But as you can see Mike has no trouble showing his love for me. I'm still learning this trait from him but for V-day I got him the last book from Artemis Fowl. I remember we were at Steve and Julia's and Mike found out there was another book in this series. Along with the book I got him a pair of "blinging" earrings.
And he got me a necklace that's not pictured yet. He wants to wait for actual Valentines Day for give me this gift even though I know what it is.

And for the kids I made them pillows. Hailey had the pink heart pillow. Lily has the peach heart pillow and Mason has a blue square pillow. (He didn't want a heart. He's such a boy!)Mike tested the pillows out to make sure they were soft enough for the kids. That's very kind of him.
For actual Valentine's Day we have a few things planned. Especially since it was the day he asked me to be his girlfriend last year. It has a double-special meaning for us. But we will let you know on a later blog how else we celebrate this lovely day.

Salsa Dance

Mike and I went to a salsa class that was being held at a local high school. It was a 2 hours class that teaches the basics of salsa. It was so much fun. Mike prior to the class only knew how to hold my hand but he picked it up quick and now he's a salsa machine!

The instructor was great. She had everyone dancing with everyone even if we came with a partner-no one was safe. It was so we can get a feel how it's to dance with different partners. The women had to learn to trust their partners at first site and learn not to lead. Which was hard for some ladies. But the men had to learn to take charge and lead the ladies. Mike had no trouble with leading his random partners but I had trouble trusting the other men to not step on my toes. At one point we ladies had to close our eyes and just trust our partners to lead us. This was hard for me since I did'nt want my toes to be stepped on. [It still happened :-)] But all in all it was a great way for Mike and I to learn something new as a couple and have fun at the same time. (Like that's hard for us)
Who knows maybe you'll see more dance blogs in the future?....

Dance Again

This year we put Hailey right back into dance. We tried to sway her into trying something new but she has her mother's stubbornness and wanted to go to dance class again. But this year she is doing really great. She has made some new friends. She is doing the dance steps and really participating but the newest thing that I'm not use to is the BIG EGO.

Sure she is adorable in her outfit and I admit from one dancer to another she knows how to leap, spin, toe point, etc. We just have to help mode that ego into confidence. But so far she is doing great. And we were going to have Mason go into soccer but due to the unfortunate events that occurred at Kearns High School no way were we going to take him there. So we pulled him out ASAP and since there is no other openings for classes other than at Kearns H.S. we are just going to wait until the next activity schedule comes out in maybe March and sign him up at a school closer to home. But doesn't he look cute in his new glasses. Turns out he is far sided.

Lily's 2 months

Today Lily is 2 months and she is learning and growing so much. Mike taught her how to stick her tongue out.
Mason and Hailey taught her how to deliver a very nice upper cut.
And I taught her how to do "The Woman Look" I figure she will need to learn this very important skill so why not teach her early.
But in all honesty Lily has grown so much. At her check up she weights 11lbs 13 oz and 24 inches. She's in the 90% percentile. Just meaning for how big she was born and she's growing great.
She wears 3-6 month clothing. Told you she was a big girl.

She still loves her showers. She recognizes the sound of the shower water and gets really quite and just waits for her turn.
She laughs and smiles all the time. She giggled for Mike once but I got her laughing. I mean really laughing. It was cute. This is the second time I got her to laugh and I tried to record it the best I could. It has a low volume so put your speakers up loud to hear her laughing.

She looks around at everything. It's kinda creepy when you think about it. Two little blue eyes just staring at you.Following you around as you walk about.
She still loves to be cuddled. I brought a snugli (baby carrier) She hated it. I thought she would get use to it but after 3 weeks she would just cry while in it. So I took it back. She loves skin to skin. That's fine. We're a cuddling family.
And thanks to grandma Felicia who brought her one of those baby 3-in-1 gym things. Lily finally has something that entertains her and it's not me.

Oh yeah she also got her first set of shots. Granted Mike and I are going to limit some shots she's going to get but for the ones she got today she was a champ. Cried only for a few seconds. And after that Hailey comforted her and she was smiling away again.

Angie's Birthday!!!

Today was  my (Angie) 25th birthday. Mike had planned it all out but nothing went to his plan. He wanted to let me sleep in and make me breakfast in bed but with him getting off work at 4am then trying to wake up at 6am to get Mason ready for school would be insane! So being the fantastic wife I am- I took care of the kids so he can get a small nap in. But he did wake up just before Mason went to school and they gave me my presents.

Mike gave me a card that had a really sweet message in it. The kids made me a card. Home-made cards are the best! Mike gave me a massage cushion and a Cosmo. A few days prior I told Mike my day in heaven would be to sit and read a magazine from cover to cover without interruptions and not cook. So I sat on my cushion and read while he cooked breakfast. It was great!

The kids each picked out a charm to complete a charm bracelet for me. Mason was obsessed about getting me a dolphin and sure enough he found a blue dolphin charm. Hailey got me a green frog. And Mike picked up Lily's which is a moon with a star on it. Mike got a silver bracelet for me so I can wear all my great charms. He says he wants to start making this my birthday tradition but even if he doesn't this was a great gift. Good job babe! (and if anyone gave him this idea I say thanks to you too)

But Mike did make breakfast. French toast that came out really good and sausage that caused a small fire on the electric stove (he tried :) ] But afterwards I could tell he was exhausted so I took the girls out and let Mike take another nap. (good thing I don't charge for awesome-ness or attractive-ness) So the girls and I hit the sales racks and I got some clothes for myself.
Then when my mom heard about this mornings incident she offered to make us dinner. We were going to go out to dinner but the offer of my mom cooking for us was only good for that day so we took her up on the offer. She made a great Mexican dinner. Yummy!
But in the evening we headed home for a family movie night. I picked the movie and Mike made a German chocolate fudge cake which turned out great!

As you can see the kids thought it was there birthday too and wanted to help me blow out the candles. But to be honest it took me a second to think of a wish. World peace and free money weren't on my top wish list. But after looking back from last birthday to today I thought of a great wish. SHH...I can't tell you though.
All though Mike had another plan for my birthday I have to admit this was a great way to celebrate my 1/4 century old birthday. Thanks for such a great memorable birthday.
PS The day prior my parents gave me my birthday gift early. They paid for my hair to get done. Cut, Shampoo, Blow dried, Styled. And a new outfit for my still changing body. Mike said I look punk-ish but what does he know. He's a guy. I look hot!!!!!
