Fugue

Does anyone know what a fugue is? That's the million dollar culture question. Tonight Mike and I went to the Utah Symphony performance of "Cho's Anatomy" where the conductor dissected Beethoven's' symphony No.3.

During the first half the conductor gave a history lesson to the audience on Beethoven. Who knew Beethoven had a temper and was a rebel in his time? The conductor explained how the piece was designed and is was originally dedicated to Napoleon but when he turned to the dark side Beethoven revoked his dedication. The conductor would then play a small sample of the symphony and explained the emotion and meaning of that part. And we learned some symphony terms such as fugue means a round. Like in row-row-row your boat. Each section starts at a different time the same piece of music.

Then came intermission. We went to the concession stands and each paid a whopping $1 for a dixie cup of soda and got 2 small treats. That 1 cookie Mike is holding was $2. And my brownie was another $2.

So our hard earned $6 was at least was donated to the Utah Youth Symphony. So money well spent.
When the second half of the performance started the conductor played the symphony in it's entirety and the whole time Mike and I were trying to point out what we had learned. It was a lot of fun.

But we couldn't end the night without a trip to McDonald's for milkshakes!!! So I guess we're not so artsy-fartsy. We're more of the blue-collar entertainment type but it's good to get out of your element every so while to learn something new and experience new things.
But tonight was a little more than just any date night it was a walk down memory lane. We first met a year ago tonight. I just needed to be in my scrubs and green shoes. (I was working at IHC when he met me) It was a nice reminisce.
